Food was not good. Very Poor for the price. Waitress did not know the menu or what the food even had in it. Nice job on the remodel but you need to work on the food and the service.
Parking is a nightmare…and at dusk, the no-see-ums and mosquitoes can be nasty, so bring a can of OFF.
Love this place!! Just wish there were more drink specials.
My question to you guys, is this place for any other race? During the entire watching of the video there was only one race present.
This place would be much better if you could ever get a drink at night. I have been there 4 times and have left every single time b/c everyone is crowded around the 1 bar they have. An easy solution to this would be to open a bar at the opposite side of the restaurant. They should probably walk over and thank the owners of Square Grouper b/c they are the ones who probably draw a great deal of their clientelle to the area. The atmosphere is awesome… but I’m not there to stare at a tree. Open another bar and make us all less miserable.
glad to hear the comments. wd rather eat a buggar than eat there.
Went with the girls for a couple cocktails one evening and loved it. I couldn’t wait to take my husband for a romantic Sunday date and waited 45 minutes to be seated and a server never approached our table. After a table of 6 sat next to us and was greeted within 1 minute we left 1 1/2 hours after arriving….Very disappointed.
Not worth the long wait or the expense for dinner with the insects. It might be OK to just hangout for drinks.
Atmosphere is fantastic but the service is absolutely horrible. Their servers are extremely rude.
The whole idea behind a place like this…so I thought…was to sit back, relax and not be in a hurry. You can do THAT at 100+ places on PGA Blvd. alone. The servers are young and inexperienced but I’ve never had a rude one. My friends and I go on Sunday’s and just hang… Just get there when it opens and you won’t have to wait.
We love it and will be back.
By the way…I happend to be there when this segment was shot, P Brown, and sorry to say, what you see is what was there. Can Guanas really be blamed for THAT?
Wow, lots of feedback. Good thing. For the record and just so you know, we got there at about 4pm on a Friday and stayed till I think about 8. It was starting to get pretty busy when we left. I’m not a real fan of being in places that are packed like sardines, so I try to time my visits to avoid the huge crowds. My time at Guanabanas was very enjoyable, just like I said in the feature.
Good Grief! I’ve never seen so much whining! Seriously, for so many people that claim to hate the place, you sure spend a lot of time there! I’ve been to Guanabanas a handful of times and have had an incredible time, with incredible food every time I was there. Are we talking about the same place? Someone mentioned the Grouper - their spot was recorded months ago, and I don’t see a single comment under their video. In fact, other than Tabica Grill with 5 comments and Brian Boru’s with 3 comments, not a single other establishment has gotten a single comment, good or bad! This spot was published today and already 11 comments - I guess it’s true what they say, “If people are talking, you must be doing something right.” I would venture to bet that half of these comments are coming from other restaurant owners in the area that are staring at empty tables in their own establishments every night. And for you P Brown, are you serious???? Check out the demographics in Jupiter! Besides, correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t see any signs hanging around the joint prohibiting minorities…
I’ve been waiting for a review to come out on Guanabana’s so I could hear a professional’s opinion before going. I’ve had several friends that work in local restraunts (either as cooks or waiters) say that the food taste like it came from Costco and had been reheated, the food and drinks were overpriced and took over 45 minutes to appear, and the wait staff was a sincerely inexperienced group of 18 year-olds that were obviously hired because of their looks, not skill. After the reviews confirming this, I guess I’ll just stick to dodging their patrons that insist on blocking traffic on the beach road.
wow, i’m really surprised to see some of the comments on here. my wife and i go to guanabanas almost every weekend, and we’ve tried almost everything on the menu - sorry, but we LOVE the food. the atmosphere goes without saying. CS, i asked one of the managers about why there wasn’t another bar in there, and apparently it’s not that they are ignorant, but the town of jupiter will not allow it. anyway, we love the place and will be back on a regular basis, as will many, many, many more, judging by the crowds there every time we go.
Hi again guys. To answer NIJANI, the reason why Guanabanas got so many comments today may have to do with the fact that it wasn’t on the site early this morning, and I emailed to find out why. The manager who handles getting my feature to the web folks was on a flight to Atlanta, and I think it may have received more promotion than it normally does due to some communitcation issues. (Yay issues!) Also, the pb pulse site only recently went on line, so the public hasn’t had a lot of time to view and make comments. That said, comment away. We can’t keep the bad ones off and there’s no use trying. That’s part of the old democracy thing.
I think there are alot of grumpy people who don’t like to wait and will always complain about something. I have been there a few times and each time was delighted with everything. I was there on Sunday and the wait was about 45 minutes, but well worth it. Our waiter was extremely good and very attentive. He even reserved a table out of the rain for us when he was aware that it was going to rain. I had a salad that was out of this world. To the people who complain, why such a wait if the place is what you say. Think about it!
I cannot believe that anyone would write anything negative about Guanabanas. It is by far the best restaurant dollar for dollar, service and food in the Palm Beach and Jupiter area. The atmosphere is fantastic - the kind of place you want to go to with family, friends or just a romantic evening out with your significant other. I have been there many times and each time they exceed my expectations.
Kudos to Guanabanas for striving for excellence and achieving their goal!
My first comment is to The Beer Guy. We enjoyed your visit, please come any time for a cold one. Looks like this time you have opened a bottle of bad beer! The problem is that what is being said does not add up. The time now is 9:15 on a Wednesday in July and we are just now coming off of an hour and a half wait for dinner. Dan, you are the only one so far that has identified yourself . . . that is democracy. I would like to challenge the other posters so far to identify yourselves. To P Brown, we welcome everyone. To CS, we are only allowed to have one bar. To Razmo, I believe that you mis-spelled booger, but not positive because it was not in my dictionary. To HC, everything is made fresh from scratch every day and we would appreciate it if you would only comment on what you have experienced yourself. To anyone that truly experienced poor service or bad food, we hope to make your next experience much more enjoyable. To all of our loyal customers, we would like to ask that you patronize other local restaurants more often to spread the business around. Times are tough, we do not want to see anyone getting hurt because of Guanabanas.
Enjoyed Guanabanas many times and look forward to coming back. All you lucky PBC folks are there without the real “crowds” of season - so enjoy it while you can! I want the wings and fresh fish today! Enjoy the Summer - glad to know you are so well appreciated by so many who realize they have a choice where they spend their time and money. Kaya Buya !
I’m a New Yorker who LOVES hangin at Guanas when I am down in Jupiter. Are the complainers crazy?? Nothing better than leaving a cramped, crowded, pushy NY and hanging under a Banyan tree with a mojito in March, or May! The food is great, the outdoors and tropical landscaped scene can’t be beat. Much better than some air conditioned old fogey place! I’ve spent many hours there and plan on spending many more, good work guys!!
Great atmosphere, Great food, Great looking staff - we’re in for Guanabanas at least once a week, mostly on weeknights when the wait for a table is less than an hour. Although the wait is long, what a beautiful place to hang out and have a couple of drinks, and meet new people. Once we are sat, though, our meal is usually served very quickly. LOVE THE KEY LIME SNAPPER!
Every Friday after work my corporation sponsors drinks and happy hour of our choice for every employee wishing to partake…. We chose Guanas for 6 Fridays in a row and while
Continued… I knew many of the current employees some were just plain incompetant (they could’ve been weeded out by now). We had to send the men to the bar to get a drink because the female bartenders would not serve us and we waited 38 minutes while my boyfriend walked up and was offered service withing 5 minutes. I love management and have only eaten the guacamole which was amazing (except for an incident where the bartender gave it to her friend first because she had to leave and we had to wait another 10 minutes… but management noticed without us complaining and it was comped). I think it has potential to be a very good restaurant as long as management keeps a tight leash on staff and runs a reputable business. I can understand hiring for appearance because it is nice to go into a place full of good looking people but in this economy there are a LOT of very good looking intelligent people looking for a serving and or bartending job. Keep up the good work just make sure you’re managers are in the know of the behavior of the staff and that all of the employees have the well being of the restaurant in mind when they treat customers.
your***
Wow, like my friend, LoosenUp the first, I love the place! I think they offer and deliver exactly what the video says. I am a female and have not had a problem getting the female bartenders to give me a drink nor have I had to wait an unlengthy amount of time to wait for food or a drink and the staff has always been overly nice. Perhaps because my friends and I are nice to them, they are nice back? I love the atmosphere of Guana’s and every experience I have had there has been positive. As for P. Brown, really?? Invite your minority friends in before you imply anything!!! I’m positive they would love it too!
I give Guana a 91/2 out of 10!
My extended family and I recently visited Guanabanas. We found good food, good service, and great atmosphere when we were there. Best wishes to John, Jennifer, Chad, Rick, and all the staff at Guanabanas. We look forward to coming again.
Amazing atmosphere, tropical and very relaxing. Have visited about 4 or 5 times on weekday evenings, but always make sure to be there before 6:00 p.m. and you probably won’t have to wait. The sangria is delicious! My favorite dish is the Tequila Lime Snapper - unbelievably fresh and delicious. Yes, the bar gets very crowded later in the evening while people are waiting for their tables, so be prepared. Valet parking is easy and the guys are always attentive and open your door for you (or you can park across the street in the public lot and take a nice walk and digest your dinner). My only issue with the food was one particular dish that was inconsistent. The first time I ordered the pulled pork plate it was amazing - moist and delicious with the best side dishes you could imagine (especially the corn pudding!) But the 2nd and 3rd time I tried the pulled pork again, it was dry and in big chunks you could barely chew. So please make a note of it in the kitchen because I really miss my pulled pork and am hesitant to order it again! All in all, a wonderful place. And yes, we were there during a rainstorm and it’s a tropical rainforest paradise! Give it a shot, but go early!
Some of these comments are horrible! Guanabanas IS one of the best things that has come to Jupiter!! It’s a beautifully landscaped restaurant on the water with great food and a nice staff… You feel as if you stepped into Costa Rica.. I mean really what more could you ask for from a restaurant? Its became my weekend hangout and I usually just have drinks and appetizers. Try the A1A lemonade which is one of my favorites or the Lobster empanadas as a starter… I have also had dinner and the fish is super fresh! For all those people who are complaining you really must find other things to do with your time and are just pissed because times our tough and this place is still packed every night…. Guanabanas keep up the good work!!! If you are looking for an awesome time, good food, and want to feel like your on a vacation then I’d definitly recommend this place!
Love the atmosphere! Beautiful entry and friendly hostess. Food is just okay, lobster empanadas were disappointing as was the salad (boring, fake bacon bits?) and dessert (soggy). Service adequate. How about some island type music throughout the restaurant? Music being played was not in sync with the surroundings at all. I will be back to try other menu items.
Now that most of the employees and friends of employees and onwer have commented.
I will share my one and only experience. Traffic is bad parking is poor, valet only. Beautiful layout and plants, but I don’t need to see iguanas while I eat. Wait was too long and young servers were inexperienced at best. Food was average and prices a bit high. I only go to eat and not to drink or chase the opposite sex as it appeared most were attempting.
Much sucess as a bar with limited sucess as a dinning establishment.
How about they bring back the two-for-one on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The night I was there and they were doing the two for one the place was packed. The other night I stopped by for hopefully another GREAT meal and was told the two fer was no more. Guess what…the place was only about 1/4 full. Hmmm….
We tried this place in February and were impressed with the beautiful surroundings. We were not impressed however, with the extremely rude hostess and the a very slow wait staff. It took us almost an hour to get nachos and only then because we finally saw our waitress again and reminded her that we had ordered. Apparently she had forgotten to place our order.
We decided to give them another try a couple months later and had pretty much the same experience. We waited for about 25 minutes to get a table in the bar from a group that waited that entire 25 minutes just to pay their bill. When we finally got waited on, the food took 45 minutes and they forgot half of our order. It took another 20 minutes to get the food for the other 2 people in our party. Needless to say, we won’t be back.
Jupiter local and Florida native here. I innocently came on here to watch the video and my curiosity of the comments led me to read them. I’m laughing my arse off.
These comments are not for the faint of heart:
P. Brown: I guess you asked for a table for 1. Because who on Earth would wanna have dinner with a race-baitor like yourself? Your post doesn’t require numbers or even a real answer. Your post showed your IQ level and honestly I didn’t have my eye glasses on to look down that far.
Rick: Parking nightmare? Either quit being a cheap **** and VALET, or walk 500 feet and park in the HUGE parking lot they have.
Sorry, but you totally lost me on the “The servers are too young and sexy” complaint. I dunno about u guys, but I like my server to be sexy and 18-25. As long as they serve me my beer cold and have a smile (which they have) I’m fine.
My complaint is the bar is too small. I agree with the posters who said this. It’s very cramped. But you know what, it is what it is. I will take the good with the not so great.
…and thats all I have to say about that.
I cannot believe all the Fuss. this place is Unique, great atmosphere. valet parking, parkin lot available. Most of all it is comfortable, grat drinks and the food i tried has ben very good to excellent. Theservice staff is smiling and happy. It is a great place to hang out, i will be back again and again.
As usual, most posts seem to be written by staff. What are the odds that everytime a negative comment is posted a few minutes later you have someone claiming to have had the exact opposite happen to them- so obvious.
I would never go to a place based on the lying comments posted about a place in Palm Beach county.
Jimc,
The same could be said about your uninformed and bitter post.
What are the odds that Guanabanas LOADS in customers everytime I go there but then there are a few like you that work in the restaurant business and are trying to deflect business from them to come to your spot.
See how that works pal. If you don’t work in the industry, then u are probably just another miserable New York New Jersey Masshole transplant. And honestly, no one really cares what those people think.
I’ll be there, as soon as they know how to pronounce GUANABANA’s!! Geez Mr. Oliver, nice video, but how embarassing! Do your homework first. I hope the owner’s know how to pronounce the name of their restaurant!
aa. Please, call me Dan. The restaurant pronounces it just the way I did in the piece, no homework required and no embarassment incurred. However, you are correct in your inference that the fruit Guanabana is pronounced with different emPHAsis on the SyllABLES. They just choose to pronouce it differently, and this being America, they have every right to do so.
Have heard positive and negative comments from patrons of this restaurant. I wouldn’t go to dinner or drinks there after the comments, in this tough economy why waste your money, you can get drinks and great atmosphere across the street and consistent great food around the corner. I know personally that the management has no idea how to hire and train their staff or communicate with them. Very unprofessional, I guess that’s why there are so many complaints about the service.
I hope their food and service is better than the overpriced, poor food and rude service at the Jetty. Will try Guanabana’s next time I am in Jupiter as it looks like a fun place. I am sure they will iron out all their problems as far as service as they go along.
great atmosphere, good food yes give it a try
Excellent food…great service. I looked through the comments. They were made in the first 6 months! Come on…in Florida when a new resturant opens up it takes some “trial and error”. The good news is its better then ever! I head up there around 5:30 and get in and get my seat at the bar. Sorry its crowded because they have made the improvements and got ride of the “kids” that worked there. THE BEST SOUTH FLORIDA offers! My Family loves it! I have a feeling those people back a year ago…are still going! Bet ya a drink or two!
